Highly adaptive website to create with coding
Students can use coding to create almost anything, including their own video games. Differentiation is easily built in by varying the complexity of the program scripts that users build by dragging and snapping together blocks which command the moving sprites on the stage. I have seen students create impressive projects.

Coding in a snap!
I love Scratch and the students love to create using it. It is an easy coding tool that teaches students the basics of computer programming and the problem solving that is required to learn how to code.It is a great computer science teaser and my students often become interested in other coding programs because of their introduction to Scratch (i.e. Tynker, Hopscotch, etc.) I love that there are tutorials available for students to use and am super excited that they have created a Scratch Jr. program student for younger grades and students with learning differences. Currently, Scratch Jr. is only available for IOS devices, but I am in hopes that they will release a version for PC/Android in the near future.

Great tool to expose your students to computer programing!
I think scratch is a fun way to introduce students to computer programming. There are no changes that I would suggest. Keep up the great work!

Scratch is a great way to introduce programming at an unbeatable cost.
I absolutely love Scratch. It is the best introductory programming tool available. It is basic enough for early elementary but robust enough to handle complicated programs that high schoolers could create. There are many books and resources available to help integrate into your classroom. Check our ScratchED for resources as well. With Scratch, the possibilities are endless.

Great tool for teaching the basics of coding as well as creating interactive stories
Created by the MIT Media Lab, Scratch is a free tool that allows students to learn introductory computer programming. They also have an App called Scratch Jr. for younger children (ages 5-7) available for download on both apple and android platforms. I have found that Scratch Jr. is a little more intuitive and easier for my first graders to use. However, with both Scratch and Scratch Jr. students can program their own stories. Students are able to choose their own characters and settings. By placing a command block and an action block together, they can have their character walk, jump, dance, etc. Also, they can type in text to make their character talk or record their own voice/sounds (which they loved) and have their character talk, sing, or make sounds. By continuing to drag and drop these color-coded blocks, students are able to create codes for interactive stories or games. I like that students are able to test their codes immediately (as soon as they drag and link the color-coded blocks together) to see if it worked the way they envisioned and if not go back and try a different set of instructions. My students love the gaming element, creativity components, and simplicity of use. I love it because I can seemlessly incorporate technology into the reading and writing curriculum by having students create interactive stories. Plus there are so many options that my students are motivated to write more stories.

Great free program for coding beginners
It's a great starting point for elementary learners to start coding. It excites the students and they want to continue at home. there are some tutorials and how the program works, but I also stress for them to learn from other places (e.g. YouTube). i agree that it does make it a little too easy for upper graders who a learning to really code. I would probably start with the Computer Science course for any grade 6 and up.

Great way to teach kids about coding.
It allows students to work with coding and not be bogged down by the syntax of a programming language. Students are quickly able to complete lines of code that produce some kind of action. This gets them excited about coding and wanting to learn more.

Hour of Code - Visual Programming Tool
I loved this program. It allows students to visually see how a computer program is designed and is put together. They have a great deal of control over their output and learned so much about the power of logic.

An amazing way to engage all students in computer programming.
I love that Scratch is free! I can set-up classes and it allows the students to work on their projects in the classroom as well as at home. The possibilities are endless with Scratch. I am the STEM teacher in the specials rotations, so I provide the introduction to the students and the support for other staff members to use it in their classrooms. The students have created games, stories, and art projects. I have seen it used on the classroom with writing. The students love to see their stories come to life! This is a highly engaging, very addictive website! Scratch can be used with students in first grade all the way through high school.
