My Take

I think scratch is a fun way to introduce students to computer programming. There are no changes that I would suggest. Keep up the great work!

How I Use It

Scratch is a website/ programming language that allows students to create interactive stories, games and animations. I used it with 7th graders in an after school program at our school. The only programming experience these students had was with the visual programer that they used with our Hummingbird Robotics kits. Most of our students had never used Scratch before and were able to get up and running after a brief overview. We had students begin by setting up accounts (so they could save their work) and their first assignment was to make a greeting card for a friend. The students had a lot of fun and they were able to project their computer screens to the front of the room to show off their end product and share their code with their classmates. The more advanced users were able to quickly move on, explore and remix some games that are featured on the website.
