An Easy Way to Flip the Classroom Letting Your Students Be the Teacher

My overall opinion about Screen-o-Matic is that it needs to be more user-friendly, but once someone understands how to use it, it can help the classroom. The software has tools in locations that are not intuitive, so it makes recording and editing difficult. However, it does give students a chance to make an exciting class presentation, so I think it is best to give students the option to use the software but not force them to use it.

Fantastic! at first. I started using Screencast-o-matic a two months ago and have created quite a few video successfully, but in the last 48 hours it has become extremely slow. It has become so slow that it is unusable.

It is so useful that I have subscribed. It is so useful, that I have spent 2 days trying to get it to work like when I first started using it even though I have spent over 12 hours trying to publish, edit and download 2 videos. It is so frustrating that I am going to cancel my subscription and look for a different resource.

Teaching as a Way to Learn

I have been using Screencast-o-matic (SOM) with teachers online in my Moodle training workshops for a number of years. My students create video tutorials using Screencast-o-matic. SOM provides students with a tool of communication and learning. They create video tutorials and publish the on Youtube, Google Drive, and on Vimeo. I love the ease of using the tool. I also use SOM to edit videos. I import videos from my phone or from online conferences and edit them. The drawing tools are probably my favourite feature because they allow me to demonstrate and my students to communicate effectively. We can express what we mean by adding arrows and text.

As the Mentorship Academy Founder: SOM is without equal. They are the “right” people supporting the “right” mission. It's the Staple's easy button for education.

It's simple, robust, free and incredibly versatile. It is the unicorn of technology tools.

Find your Teaching Superpowers

I know I sound like a sales pitch but it is seriously a wonderful product. I started with the free version and upgraded to the $15/ year submission. Best $15 I ever spent. Product allows you to record or create instructional/ informative videos or pull from the web. Connect it to a document camera and record how to make secondary colors or math problems. Really whatever suits you needs. This was especially helpful if I wanted to show a video from Youtube but my county used to block the site. Additionally, you won't be surprised by pop-up ads for Victoria's Secret (for example) because your videos are prerecorded and no longer linked to websites like Youtube. This website saved my life. especially when I used to teach 1000 elementary students on a seven day rotation, I discovered this product at a professional learning development course for Art teachers and I was hooked. Imagine grading papers while students watched a recording of the demonstrations. And for the elementary , middle or high school students that say, "You didn't say that I had to do that." Well, yes, I did. Your proof is in the instructional video.

Screencast-o-Matic is my go to teacher tool!

I love this tool. In it's most basic form as a screen recorder, it saves my students from having to suffer through a long lecture in class. In it's more advanced form as a video editor and creator, this tool can seamlessly create all sorts of videos using many types of platforms and tools. Want to video record? It can do it! Want to screencast? yup! Want to do both? Of course. CAre to splice together pieces of this video in to pieces of that video? Why not. What ever you can dream up, this tool can use. Also, it should not go with out saying that it is easy to upload videos to a variety of places, including YouTube, your computer (as a versatile .mp4 file), to google drive, and more. Lastly, while this tool is a screencasting product first, it's editing tools are phenomenal. You can do so many things with the editor without having to use a third party editing tool. You can't go wrong using screencast-o-matic for your screencasting needs.

Free, easy-to-use video recording and editing tools for polished instructional videos. Great technical support, too!

I've always been so impressed with this tool given it's affordability. It's free, easy, fun. Students are surprised that they, too, can make videos to present projects or for self-expression. Technical support is always quick to respond, but I've had few technical problems. Such a great tool.

Screencast-O-Matic makes screen-capture as easy as click and go!

Overview Screencast-O-Matic is a screen-capture service that has a highly functional free version, and a powerful and easy subscription plan that doesn’t break the bank. If you use, or wish to use, screen capture technology, for flipping your class for example, please try this tool. You can record your screen, yourself, or both, and alternate between cameras. With subscription you gain access to point-and-click editing tools that are simply easy to use. Concerns None. Sample Uses Oh, if you flip, please look at Screencast-O-Matic. Pay the $15, get the editing and distribution functions, and have fun. Do I plan to use it? Maybe. I do not flip at this point, but I do create multimedia pieces to establish context when the class is investigating primary source documents. I can see myself playing with Screencast-O-Matic. Certainly, if I need screen capture I will go to this service. IF I need bells and whistles, I will spend the $15 for a year’s license. In fact, the more I think of it, the more I want to find a use for this service. I love it! Commitment and Learning Curve Medium-High Best for ES MS or HS?
