MyOn is a great service in theory, but the lack of accurate filters makes it downright dangerous for younger users.
MyOn is not a safe system for younger users without constant supervision. It displays and reads aloud materials that are not age appropriate. I would look elsewhere for software that allows for more parental controls. I strongly encourage anyone currently using this system to check and see what books are available to young children.

Great idea- Poor delivery
This tool was a great idea but has poor delivery. The books that are selected are based on his age not his reading ability. It keeps recommending BRL0 books and his score is L 120 . The books can be audible but the questions must be read by the student. Further the questions require inference and outside knowledge. A book about animals living in the arctic mentions that they have white fur but never says why. end of book question is: "which is the reason the animals fur is white?" Further proper English would be "Why do so many animals living in the Arctic have white fur?" I have even seen questions with missing words: In a book about emperor penguins it asked about the animals moments: there were words missing and it did not make any sense, he guessed migration and was correct.
My son likes the variety of books available but he prefers a different program the school uses. Despite my issues with it I prefer myOn because it is not as "teachy". I wish I could reject the books it recommends, he just skips over them and chooses something else. I feel that the program is governing my sons progress and in some ways he is getting board with it because they are offering "baby" books.

Great Online Reading Tool
Overall, if your school/district has purchased this program, I would recommend using it with your students. I would use it a few times in class to make sure that all of the students know how to log on and then let students use it at their leisure. Many of my students said that they read more because it was a lot easier to read on their phone than carrying around a heavy novel.

Great digital library for teachers and studnets!
I really love this program! When I first learned about it I thought it was great that students could use this program to hear and read books that they find interesting or books that I select for the students to read. The great thing about this program is that students can read book at home! While the students are reading books, once they finish a book there are a couple of questions the students are asked to answer after the reading of a completed book. The program also lets you track how many books your students are reading in a day, week and even a month. It shows the teacher the books students have read completely or books they have not finished yet. The only downside is that the program does not have all the books in the world, but a great amount of books. I just think its great that students have access to a wide range of books at their fingertips and that the books can be read to the students which helps struggling readers, beginning readers, and English Langauge Learners.

Maybe useful for weak readers
Forces more screen time into the curriculum and I don't think it's a good use of my kids' time. They are excellent readers already and this dumbs down the experience.

Could be a lot better, Reading time is only logged while book is read... for K-1 lvl kids, it should also read quiz questions, not a fan of set up
Wont touch it until further development is done and its shined up. To ask kids to spend 20 minutes reading on it 3 times a week is one thing, but for it to only count the actual reading of the book as reading time is fairly retarded. It should count total time and as a back end metric show school administrators what time was spent reading the books, going through the quizzes and browsing the site. And for new readers this program really should read everything to them or remove the quizzes or simplify them for the age appropriate levels. I can imagine a 5 grader having the same set of books my K and 2nd grader have... it would be way slow for them. I prefer Lexia

Great for ELL but monitor the use of the headphones.
This is a great tool for ELL. They can listen to the book while trying to decode the words. Teachers have to be careful about the use of the headphone. Students may tend to listen more than trying to decode.

Student driven Literacy
MyOn was overall painless to introduce to the school and students, after the assessment test students are able to create their own personal library which cuts down on the numerous cries of "I can't find a book!" Book quizzes and benchmark assessments are provided throughout myON which help track students' reading progress. The audio feature within myON is also amazingly helpful as it allows students to enjoy books outside of their reading level as well.
The only problem was students who did not take the assessment seriously and guessed on the answers so that their progress indicators look strange after they get into it and start taking it seriously, so make sure students are not guessing at the answers.

myON is an all in one literacy program that is student driven and teacher guided.
The ease of implementing myON within a school is seamless. Students are able to rate what types of materials they like to read and then take a placement test. The score of this assessment will then provide each student a personalized library based off of their interests and Lexile score. Teachers can also use myON to support their curriculum by launching book sets. This has served my school well for various research based projects and extension activities. The best part is myON offers books that I have right on my library shelves. The kids think this is great and the teachers love that they finally have a program with rigorous and authentic text available. Book quizzes and benchmark assessments are provided throughout myON which help track students' reading progress. The audio feature within myON is also wonderful as it serves to allow students to enjoy books even outside of their reading level.

I love that every student who is learning English can read books and be successful at home and on their own. Many of our students have parents who don't speak English and this helps them learn at home.
