Quizlet has changed the way I teach vocabulary!
If you have ever made flash cards, or asked a friend to help you study for a vocabulary test, you will find the value in Quizlet. This free tool allows teachers and students to sign up for a free account to create their own flash cards by typing the words and their definitions into the site. (accounts are not needed to use a set -- only to create one) Thanks to Quizlet, I stopped having students copy vocabulary from the board. I can print out the vocabulary set or have the students but most of the time I have the students jump right into the site and learn the vocabulary with the site. Using Quizlet, students can then see what their weaknesses are and put more practice to improve those words or skills, whether it be spelling, matching, etc. I love that each student can work independently and and review the material in several ways, rather than use a paper study guide that presents the information in one way. For offline learning, a vocabulary list, flash cards and a test can be printed right from the website! Quizlet could be made better by allowing teachers to set up student accounts, like many of the other educational tools do, so they can track their students from the site and give direction to the students who need reinforcement.

Engaging Study Tool
Quizlet is a great study tool. You create flashcards that can be accessed by anyone online. There are a variety of ways to study using Quizlet: tests, games, and flash cards. It's great for all levels of learners because of the variety. ELL students can have the cards read to them and can select the language to have the cards shown to them. This site challenges student to learn the material by ranking them if these choose to sign in and by giving them encouraging comments to improve. The down side of this site is that it is extremely unforgiving. What I mean is that the student must type the answer exactly or it does not recognize it as correct. This can be frustrating to the students if they make a minor mistake. Also, it generates test questions that do not always make sense. For example if the questions asks "which branch of government makes laws?", the answer choices may be "veto, Legislative Branch, and 2/3." Also, it really focuses on memorization rather than adding any extension of knowledge. When making flash card sets, you really have to phrase them carefully knowing the limitations of this product. Finally, you are really limited to the type of information you can review using this site. It is difficult to add in depth, critical thinking questions using this format.

An additional digital tool to aid in the memorization of vocabulary.
Quia offers students an additional platform to learn vocabulary in any subject. There are hundreds of already-created vocabulary sets, which you can "borrow" and add to your own. Students and teachers can also create their own flashcard sets, making it a truly custom experience.

An on-demand learning tool that students can access from anywhere.
We all want our students to learn our content on a deeper level, but we also all have some basic concepts that students just need to know. Students quickly lose interest when your classroom focuses on the rote learning, so Quizlet allows you to have students learn and practice these basic concepts on their own. The simple fact that it can be accessed quickly on their smart phones makes it practical for them. The different learning modes adds interest for them.
When I asked my students to name an online tool that they used and felt was helpful to them, many of them started with Quizlet. Therefore, maybe more important than being teacher-approved, Quizlet seems to be student-approved.
I have read other reviews about Quizlet, and the negative mentioned is the accuracy of some of the user created materials. No doubt teachers and students are aware of this limitation, but that should not overshadow the plethora of high quality sets.

Great app - needs more!
I really like this program, however, since many parents are reluctant for their children to have emails (at elementary and middle school age), I feel it is advantageous that Quizlet provide a means to not be able to access it, but still connect with the teacher in some way so the teacher can track the student. For example, the teacher has a code that links his/her quiz, the student takes it and the teacher can track the student's progress (also have a way the student can have his/her name as part of a quizlet question). Just my thoughts.

Great study tool which can be used anywhere!
I have seen Quizlet used as a great teaching tool that can be used with all grade levels. I like that you can create your own study flashcards or you can search for a set of flashcards that have already been created. Then you can edit the cards for your own use. There are many ways to study, a game format, a matching format, or just cards with or without pictures. Using Quizlet is a also a great way to differentiate your instruction. For example, some students might need to learn 20 terms, others maybe just half that many, with Quizlet it is easy to create different lists for students and to share with them.

Most awesome flashcards online I have found.
I love this! Students can create their own flashcards. I can create them.We all can share them. You can even search to see what other people have created for a subject. Students can use just the flashcard setting, or play games. Its fun for self review, and I am addicted to it as I study for the CJE exam.
