Community Review for Quizlet
My Take
Quia offers students an additional platform to learn vocabulary in any subject. There are hundreds of already-created vocabulary sets, which you can "borrow" and add to your own. Students and teachers can also create their own flashcard sets, making it a truly custom experience.
How I Use It
I offer Quizlet as an optional tool for my students to aid in the learning/retention of French vocabulary. Once a new vocabulary list is assigned, I find the corresponding set on Quizlet, modify it, if necessary and then post the link to Edmodo.com for students to use. For those students who have difficulty memorizing words from a list, Quizlet helps them to practice independently. Since most students have access to the Internet via their phones, they can listen / study the words almost anywhere.
There is a text-to-speech component, which in most cases works quite well. This cannot always be said for World Languages applications, however; the pronunciation is often butchered. That being said, there is a new record your own voice feature, which I have yet to try. Perhaps that will help solve that issue!
