My Take
Voicethread is an open ended tool - able to be used for any subject and with any age level. Though there is a bit of a learning curve, once students get the hang of it, they are able to navigate independently. We created two screencasts for students 1) how to upload pictures and 2) how to comment. These have come in handy when students haven't used Voicethread in a while and need a quick refresher or when they are home and can't remember which button to press!
How I Use It
We have used Voicethread with students as young as Kindergarten and with "lead learners" (Teachers) during professional development sessions. Our K teachers create one voicethread for the class, with each student having a slide. Students are recorded narrating a tour of their diorama. 6th grade buddies, parents, grandparents, and friends are invited to comment on the voicethread. After a week or so, the comments are shared with the entire class. This is a great way for big/little buddies to connect asynchronously. Our science teacher has used Voicethread with 4th graders learning about ocean biomes. Each student became an expert on one area of one biome. The experts for each biome created a group voicethread project to teach classmates about each characteristic of their assigned biome. Comments, compliments, and "I learned" reflections were then posted by each student on others' slides.
