My Take
This is an excellent tool to engage students in a discussion about any visual material including art, images of primary sources, or historic pictures. One of the best features is the ability to differentiate how the student responds to the images - by typing or orally - or the methods used to input the responses. Another favourite aspect is that it is web-based and parents (and others, if invited) can chime in and participate as well.
How I Use It
I have used it for my visual arts class. I have had students who have various challenges that affect their ability to write responses or give artist statements, however once given the opportunity to do this orally, they proved to be extremely literate and have great ideas! I asked them to make notes about what they were going to say (in point form with no worries about spelling or grammar) and that took the focus off the writing and gave them more freedom to share their thoughts.
