My Take

Working as a computer teacher, I love activities that are a) fun and engaging, b) cater to a wide variety of skill levels, and c) actually teach the kids something. Some online resources are all fluff and no substance while others have more substance than fun. I think Teach Your Monster does a great job of being fun while at the same time motivating the kids to master the skills. bottom line, I like it and so do the students.

How I Use It

I teach computers. I use Teach Your monster with 1st-K. I work with a large group of kids and login cards are required. For my 1st graders, I have 3-4 students practice their reading by handing out the cards to their classmates. Once the students login I have them play for 10-15 mins, and then give them the option to switch to another reading website if they wish. Most students choose to continue playing. The better readers quickly beat the first game and are happily playing Teach Your Monster 2.
My Kindergartners have some trouble logging in alone. So, I divided my kids into 3 groups and I rotate days on helping 1 group log on.
