Great way to teach students to annotate text.
Community Review for Notability
My Take
I really like using this for annotations. It is a little bit difficult for students to remember to scroll with two fingers through the text. When they use one, the pen tool makes a line instead of scrolling the text. With enough practice, they can figure this out. Although we have Social Studies textbooks, the idea of reading them in Notability makes it very engaging for students. They get more out of the lesson since they are able to interact with the text. We also read other articles using this tool.
How I Use It
After uploading our Social Studies text as a pdf, I have students open it in Notability to annotate it and keep track of their thoughts as we read. Student highlight the text, add notes of their own, add text, and even record voice notes as they read. As fourth graders, they are tempted to highlight more than is essential in text. With this app, they have used it so often that the novelty of highlighting has gone away. They are now able to identify important details and keep relevant notes.
