My Take
Mathalicious provides standards-aligned, high quality lessons that explore mathematical topics through a real-world lens. Teachers are able to sign up through their school, or on a pay-what-you-can basis for access to dozens of lessons. Each lesson has three tabs to help teachers plan, teach, and reflect on the lesson. Mathalicious is a portal for highly engaging, fascinating activities that inspire students to find math in their everyday lives like never before.
How I Use It
In my 6th grade classroom, we have ditched paper-and-pencil Common Core test practice for activities like those found on Mathalicious. Because the site looks at everyday situations through a mathematical lens, everyone in the class is on an equal playing field. Students at all achievement levels have the opportunity to contribute what they know about pizza or X-Box or any other topic, and students with a flair for math application really shine as they help their peers tie it all together.
