Creative, simple and fun for students.
In my opinion, this is a terrific app to introduce students on how easy it is to use technology to create something useful and graphic. The students are having fun using the technology and the teacher receives an end product that displays their understanding of what they have learned about the subject. I will use this again in the future for other subject areas. One area that could be improved is the number of options for editing or templates available. I am going to attempt having the students try to create a multi paged comic the will tell a more detailed story. They will use a storyboard template to plan and then use this app to create it. I hope to be able to find a way to combine the pages they create into a booklet.
How I Use It
I used this app as a formative assessment during our digital citizenship unit. We have been learning and exploring about being good digital citizens and smart about protecting ourselves. At the time of performing this task, we were exploring private and personal information, as well as looking at strong passwords. The students were asked to use this app to create a comic poster targeting their peers. In the poster, they were to illustrate a scenario linked to protecting their information. It could be that they showed a scene of someone not being careful by providing private information online or using a weak password. They also could have shown a success story of someone being smart. Once they completed their comic posters, we shared as a class and identified the meaning behind each one. It worked extremely well as the kids loved using it and it was very simple for them to use. I gave a very brief tutorial on how to use the app and set the expectations; from there, the kids took over. They were engaged and the final products were great. It was an easy and creative way to show their understanding and by printing them off, gave something for others to view.
