Sequencing, Conditionals, and Loops, Oh, My!
I love the codeSpark Academy app. Students are engaged and excited about learning. Reading is not a requirement, so it's perfect for pre-readers, but even older students (and adults) enjoy the quirky Foos characters. Each level introduces different computer science content. The app is free for educators and provides access to lesson plans, both plugged and unplugged, and the codeSpark community.

Perfect for Elementary or Low level MS students
I would have loved to use this when I ran the computer lab at the elementary level. The students would have loved the characters and colors in the animations. This would definitely keep the students engaged and learning.

One of the best coding apps for kids
I have been using codeSpark for the last year and a half at my school and at home with my kids (4 and 8 years old). Every time when there is an update, so many new tools and challenge. Great for critical thinking and introducing basic computer science concepts in a fun and educational way.
The cons of CodeSpark is the expensive PD courses for educators, it would be great to have at least a basic introduction course for free.

Great app with a variety of games to teach and use coding. Highly engaging. Love that the code expires every two hours so that students have to have teacher permission to use.
I like that there are many different things to do and not just coding. It is great for the beginner and advanced student alike.

Codespark is the best coding app around!
Codespark is an excellent learning tool to teach coding. The off line activities are well thought out and engangng. The coding levels are age appropriate and my students can't get enough of it. And now that you can create a story, my students are coding their own stories in addition to games. The only thing I would love to see is a way to share their games and stories off line.

Great app with a great storyline and characters!
I love the Foos because the students like that it has a story line and characters. They are excited to advance through levels. When I introduce the Foos we go through a few levels together. The app is so great because it provides a quick tutorial before each level. The different levels build up from each other while reviewing prior knowledge. I like that students can also create their own levels. It gives them the opportunity to tale their own creative license and express themselves, while also showcasing their skills. The app appeals to many different learners and levels of students, not focusing on primarily high or low readers. I would like if some of the directions were read outlaid, I feel that could be beneficial to some students.

Students Love the Foos!
I love this App! Students learn the fundamentals of coding while I get to see them persevere. They learn the art of growth mindset, I see them sharing and teaching each other to get to the next level. I see them want to do better when they struggle and will try their absolute best to get there.

Fun, Fast, Fantastic... The Foos
My overall opinion is... I really like The Foos a lot! My students like it a lot too! I like the setup of the lessons in different areas of Fooville. This makes it easy for students to follow and know exactly where to go and work. I also like that I can lock the Game Maker from student access. Students can get sucked into the Game Maker and not want to to anything else. I would like to know more about the mini-game sections. I don't understand when students should use them or why. I also like that there are answer keys, because sometimes I need them too! This app is Fun, Fast and Fantastic.!
