Teaching Tolerance is great for the future

I enjoy Teaching Tolerance because it is taking a prominent role in today's society. It has up to date topics and events that can weigh on people's minds. These topics can lead to in depth discussion by the students and digesting difficult topics leads to greater learning. The students can learn how to discuss delicate subjects while providing ideas to combat harmful and toxic behavior.

The information on teaching tolerance was concise but powerful. It provided opportunities to inspire students with differences to interact around the globe. Student awareness for online and in person communication is invaluable.

The overall product seems to be a great tool in the classroom. Teaching online etiquette is critical and would provide a sensitivity to other students and the overall learning environment. I feel it is important that students learn to develop community.

Teaching Tolerance is the best tool for Social and Emotional Learning.

I have been using materials from Teaching Tolerance since its inception, my only complaint is that its information is vastly underused by educators and needs to be used more as a resource particularly in teaching about civil rights, current events, mental and social health , etc.

My Go-To Source For Social Justice Education

I use this site frequently and am confident that I will find what I need when I access it. As stated above, the areas that I use it the most is through Mix-It-Up and social awareness campaigns. I teach a Civic Engagements class and this site has helped me with my research and implementation. Their site has a Student- Task section. labeled Do Something. This section has so many wonderful ideas in helping students brainstorm ways that they can impact their community and make a difference. Many times, students feel disempowered in their ability to help fulfill a need. This site helps me challenge their perspective and helplessness. Lesson plans and activities from Teaching Tolerance empowers them to understand inequality, poverty, discrimination, and historical/ current injustices. Once they have acquired knowledge and participated in discussion, they are emboldened to put these skills into action. It is exciting to see them partake in advocacy, philanthropy, and awareness, and service campaigns.

Great job on putting together useful information on how to promote tolerance in the classroom!

This has so many resources that you can easily make it personal to your school and your classroom and the needs of your students in your own community. My principal has been looking for something like this so I am going to share it with him as well!

Engage Students in Timely Topics, Cultural Diversity, and Historical Perspectives

This site is very valuable as a repository for lessons, with supporting media, as well as a resource for research, where background information can be culled for teaching and inquiry based projects.

This is a good project for supporting reading skills of our students.

This sis a good project to enhance reading and support student engagement and understanding. I like in this project the kind of readings suggested and the variety of topics as well. It helps kids to read about different topics without taking a lot of time in searching. It also helps me as a teacher to work more on differentiation in my class. The only concern is that some readings are written with a high language level which may prevent some students from a deeper understanding to the topic.

Teaching Compassion and Diversity Through History

This is a great site. I love the lessons to which you have access. The lessons that I used invited discussion and let the kids be open about their feelings. The setup for the lesson page is really user friendly and gives a lot of information right off the bat that makes it easy to find the lesson that is right for the topic. The magazine has some great articles from other teachers and interesting hands-on lesson ideas to get the kids involved physically with a lesson. There are a couple of film kits that you can request be sent to the school and a couple different professional developments. The only thing that stands out as a small annoyance is that some of the campaigns that they organize are from 2015 and are still on the site as an active campaign. This is not really an issue, just something to be aware of. Over all this is a great website that I hope to incorporate into many more of my lessons.

Great materials for teaching diversity

The videos are easy for my students to connect with their own lives. The supplemental materials give the educator the ability to delve very deeply into the topic or to briefly deal with the concept.
