Self Description and Summarizing
I used this website for an introductory activity with the students by having them write ten to fifteen words or phrases that describe themselves. Students were engaged and the learning curve was slight. My special needs students were able to participate in this activity. Students then use this website to summarize short text to see terms that stand out in the text.

Great tool, but lacks intuitive layout.
I love the end products that Tagxedo makes, but unfortunately, getting there isn't incredibly easy. The layout of the website isn't as intuitive as some comparable word cloud websites. I like that you can change the layout of the words and upload your own picture if you'd like. I also love that the students can use this without creating an account or providing an e-mail address. Despite the less-than-perfect layout, it is still a great tool to use.

Great Comparison and Contrast Tool for Primary Sources
Although a simple tool it can be a great vocabulary and word aggregator for primary sources and can help students connect to the larger themes of a complex document. As a teaching tool it is amazing as it helps to deconstruct the words in a document and gives students a chance to closely loock at word choice by the creator of the document. It is easy to use, fast and simple, and the outcome jpeg can be shared with other audiences through two simple clicks.

Great tool, takes a little practice
My students really enjoyed using this site. It takes a little bit of time for the kids to get the hang of it, but once they do they'll love playing around with all of the options.

Great way to introduce the idea of Text editing with kids
I liked the ability for kids to make individual changes to the finished product -- this helped create uniqueness -- but still kept the concept unified. There were slight issues ..... it is an INTERNET activity afterall ... but overall the lesson went well and the kids were actively engaged.

Tagxedo is a Cool Tool for Language Arts
Tagxedo offers an alternative to the traditional Wordles that have been around for some time. I like the fact that it offers different shapes and styles for presentation.
Students like the fact that they can use this beyond the classroom. The site allows students to go home and make word clouds for their own applications (such as Facebook).
Troubleshooting: We ran into a problem with a plug-in issue. I took my students to a lab in our school, only to have difficulty setting up the activity. I would strongly suggest checking available computers to see if there will be any problems.

Excellent visual representations for students to see, read, or create.
Very neat way to visually display text, and get a discussion going. I plan to use this often as a way to spark conversation in small group and classroom lessons.

Fun, free, and useful word cloud tool!
I found Tagxedo to be a very useful tool for creating word clouds. Students had fun using it since it is easy to use and provides a lot of different options for their word clouds. Students can change the color, size, text font, image/shape of the cloud, etc. When completed, they can save the image to a computer or flash drive.

Great tool for students to analyze text and summarize their learning.
Tagxedo makes it easy for students to highlight and pull out the most important words from a text, website, or even their own writing. The ability to shape that text into shapes and images makes the site more powerful because students can add additional layers of meaning by grouping the keywords into different shapes.
Unfortunately, the site can be a bit tricky to use, especially with younger students and the inability to save work-in-progress means that you need to really plan ahead and make sure you set aside enough time for a student to start and complete a Tagxedo project. Once a word cloud is complete, it is easy to save and share and currently, you can upload any shape or image if the choices in their image library do not match students' topics.

Word Clouds with Pizazz!!
So much cooler than Wordle! This site has unlimited potential for exploration and creativity. The program is similar to Wordle in that it takes a text and turns the words into a picture. Taxedo takes it a step further and puts the words into shapes of your own choosing, including your own pictures or designs. We've made gifts for every occasion, summarized pieces of literature, and created logos for real and imaginary products.
