Great Quick Reference for Solutions to Math or Science Formulas and Problems
Unless you know what you are looking for, the answers the site gives can be far beyond what you seek or can comprehend!
Students might be a little overwhelmed with the generated responses and will need to practice using the site in order to feel comfortable using it in the future.
That being said, type in Global Warming and the response you get is a wonderful graph and statistic of temperature measurements over time on the planet.

Worth the fee for the full version.
I think this app is worth the fee, do not like that each major component is a separate fee though and there is some overlap on features between app components.

It's more than just a calculator...
With respect to problem solving, it would be great if the web site offered a way to show the work without users paying for the Pro service while at school. It does a great job with in-depth explanations instead of just getting answers. However, it provides a wonderful opportunity for extended learning. For an example of extended learning, the students can discover how the program comes up with certain properties of shapes.

This site has proven to help my Algebra kids quite often. It's a "go to" site when I cannot be there to help them.
I really think this particular site is a great resource for the kids in my classroom to use when they need both help with some of the algebra concepts and review of those concepts they might have forgotten. This site is a great tool to help kids overcome the little obstacles they find when doing classwork and homework. I like how they can enter in a linear equation, and the feedback they get is thorough. When an equation is entered, the kids are able to get feedback on more than just the solution. Wolfram Alpha gives both the solution and graphs the line as well. It is the visual that so many of my kids need at one time or another. What's also great is that this site does more than just work with linear equations. While in the Algebra curriculum, we tend to spend most of our time focused on linear equations. This site provides a lot of help to those kids who need help with quadratic and exponential equations as well. Wolfram Alpha is what I sell to the kids as a one-stop shop that will help your through a lot of your algebra questions. It's there to help, and it does a great job.

Wolfram Alpha gives students the power to research, compare and generate ideas!
My 6th grade students really like Wolfram Alpha. There is an app and a web presence. Students enjoy comparing information about anything they can think of! Teachers can ask students to focus on a specific item or content area. Graphs are included. Students can think about the information and generate ideas about what might be driving the data. The possibilities are endless!

great scientific resource, more applications in physics I think than other sciences
If they're using google and coming up short, try it and it'll likely get you a more professional search result, though not as varied.

Calculation engine that can handle any situation
Wolfram Alpha is a great website and app for the science student to use when they need help with a particular calculation or need to research information on a topic with lots of data. The thing I like best is that it allows students to see all the work behind a solved problem in a step by step manner and provides more data than anywhere else when doing a search for information.
