Bio
I am a Graphite Mentor. My goal is to engage, connect, and support teachers in order to enhance their practice in the classroom.
I have been working in District 75 since 2007 and am a Common Sense Ambassador. I have also been employed at CUNY Brooklyn College, School of Education, as an adjunct lecturer, teaching a master level graduate course on Curriculum Modifications and Learning Environments for students with special needs in the Physical/Life Science instructional setting.
I have been involved in a number of curriculum development projects and programs in District 75. These include: 2008 TASK FORCE team member on high school curriculum for students taking standardized assessments; D75 Curriculum Development Committee in which I was an active participant in the development and dissemination of business-literacy curriculum for D75 schools for the 2011 school year and Chapter 683 summer programs; D75 CTECH Curriculum Task Force to develop and refine curriculum and learning tasks/activities for students participating in standard and alternate assessment & participate in alignment of curricula to CDOS and Common Core Standards; and departmental Earth science/Living Environment and laboratory curriculum development at P753K.
I have been involved in a number of advanced educational programs including robotics, STEM, and hydroponics, and hold various advanced STEM certifications from New York Institute of Technology and through NASA-affiliated courses at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In addition, I am one of only 250 Space Foundation Teacher Liaisons located throughout the world and the only one in New York City; we use space-related education programs and principles in the classroom to act as advocates for space-based education in schools and districts by working with space organizations, such as NASA.
Currently, I am an Academy for Teachers Fellow, hold School Building Leader and School District Leader certificates and have been selected to be part of a “Graphite Accelerated Educators” (GAE) program run by NYCDOE’s DIIT and Common Sense Media which focuses on using technology to enrich and enhance learning with K-12 students, and support teachers in the effective integration of technology into teaching. I am also the Science Coach for District 75 and a 2014 Math for America Master Science Teacher. I run and manage eurekablogazine.com and on Twitter @eurekablogazine which is a special education STEM "blogazine" that communicates with parents, students and staff members on all things STEM and science education related.
