Create powerpoints with voice overs for a Flipped Classroom approach
It is an easy to use way of creating video lessons that other users can interact with. Create a presentation using powerpoint or the like, then voice over and use a draw tool to enhance the presentation so that students or others, can watch it like a lecture.
I see it as a great way to use the Flipped Classroom approach, as you create your presentation, voice over and draw over like you would when in front of the class, then share it with your students, who can then watch it at their leisure and own pace, and also add comments if you let them.
I found that this reduces stress on homework completion as students simply have to watch a video rather than work that often they would struggle with. Then, class time is spent on dealing with these more difficult areas and helping the students with their work, leading to a more student centered class, which is rare at the college levels.

A digital multimedia presentation tool that allows for asynchronous collaboration
Voicethread is a great app for students to use to share their own knowledge in an engaging and multimedia format. Voicethread allows for five different commenting options (audio, video, text, drawing, phone), which makes it very flexible and accessible for even young students who may not be literate/typing yet. The tool is also a great way for students to communicate and collaborate with students or experts in other locations since users do not need to be active at the same time. Comments can be exchanged across time zones and countries, even by phone in low-broadband areas. Although Voicethread is more structured and slide-based than other tools like Prezi, it still allows for a lot of creative expression and open-ended learning for students when they are allowed to direct the creation of a Voicethread and the comments that are made in response to the content.

Voicethreads combines creativity and collaboration
Voicethread is a great way to combine student work of all kinds - take pictures of physical creations of younger students and upload - or have students create within Voicethread by uploading pictures and photographs. Students can then comment on each other's projects and sharing the final projects is critical. This gives every student a way to create and share what they have learned.

Presenting content in a collaborative way
VoiceThread has become an integral part of my 8th grade USHistory course because it allows me to post online lessons that are interactive. Both students and teachers can post responses via keyboard (text), phone (audio), microphone (audio), or audio/video (webcam). As with any tool, you will learn more tricks once you are accustomed to the format and experiment.

Collaboration and peer evaluation tool that is snazzy when done.
Students love the ability to reflect and get peer comments about their work. It is not cheap, so I would love to see a free education version in the near future. My students and I also struggled a bit with creating inside VoiceThread, so we ended up using powerpoint and posting it afterward.

Good tool to communicate ideas with images
A VoiceThread is a combination of images and comments. Students can upload images of any kind and add written or spoken narration or comments as well as doodle as they comment. A classroom could do this with one account or with accounts for each student. It is a good tool for creating presentations. It is even better for allowing audiences to participate and provide comments or feedback. Video tutorials provide instruction and examples of how to create a VoiceThread and add comments to an existing one.
