Pros: Setup is easy, and there are lots of customization options.

Cons: Make sure device's settings are on "awake" so that it doesn't unexpectedly enter sleep mode.

Bottom Line: Goes above and beyond standard timers to include handy customization and visual cues.

The most obvious uses for Time Timer in classrooms are for timing standardized tests and for helping students judge how much time is left on a task, independent reading, or a break. As the timer counts down and kids can see the color on the stopwatch-like timer disappearing, they may feel some pressure to complete the task at hand; this may be beneficial for some kids' performance and detrimental to others', depending on how kids react to deadlines. Nevertheless, timed tests and limits are part of life, and Time Timer is a way to introduce kids to that fact.

Time Timer is a productivity app that can help kids (or adults) focus on timed tasks, as well as manage transitions or waiting. The customizable timers act as clear, colorful visuals to help kids understand concepts of time -- such as when there is a limited amount of time to complete something or they need to wait for a certain amount of time.

Simply tap Add Timer to create a new timer (check that the awake mode is on in your device's settings so that the timer doesn't shut off), and then a stopwatch-style timer appears. Swipe around to set the desired time, name the timer, and adjust the mode and settings. There are many options, including sound of the timer when it's complete, number of plays, and color. Time can be counted down in seconds, minutes, or hours, and timers can be saved.

Time concepts can be challenging for many kids, especially those with special needs. With Time Timer, younger kids can see time as a measurement without the confusion of the numbers on a traditional clock. Older kids can focus on the amount of time left, represented by the amount of color on the timer.

Although Time Timer was created as a productivity tool, kids can learn time management, work efficiently, and even perhaps gain in-the-moment motivation by using this app. Throughout education and life, kids and adults are expected to perform under time pressure on tests and other tasks. In some instances and for some kids, time pressure may even help boost productivity and creativity. This app may help kids learn to manage time-related stress and practice focusing to stay on task. Time Timer can help kids appreciate the value of time and use it well.

Timing may engage some kids more deeply in tasks, while it may be distracting and stressful to others. The interface is tidy and clean, so kids can use it with ease.

Pedagogy Is learning content seamlessly baked-in, and do kids build conceptual understanding? Is the product adaptable and empowering? Will skills transfer?
4

While kids time each other or experiment with timed tasks, they'll be gaining a deeper understanding of time and how it's used in the real world. Choosing customized icons and settings should be fun and empowering as well.

Support Does the product take into account learners of varying abilities, skill levels, and learning styles? Does it address both struggling and advanced students?

An excellent step-by-step help section and good online videos explain both the setup process and the many uses for this app.

Egg Timer is a great way to have child transition from one activity to another. Especially for children with disabilities who struggle with change. I use it in my classroom everyday and the children really enjoyed using it.

I really like this tool. My students really liked seeing exactly how much time they had between activities. It also has a buzzer that would sound off alerting my students it is time to change activities.
