How I Use It
Mastery Connect is a great program to create assessments, share assessments, and track student growth. I use the free version right now, so my assessments are limited to 10 questions, but I find I do not want to make the assessments any longer. I have been working on switching my class to Standards Based Learning, so after we work with a new standard, I create an assessment on Mastery Connect. Mastery Connect allows teachers to select the particular standards that are being used in their state. I have been working with Common Core, but now I will be stitching to Oklahoma PASS since the state has overturned Common Core. Luckily, Mastery Connect offers both, along with tons of other state standards. After selecting the standard my class has been working with, I'll create an assessment. Occasionally, a reviewer from Mastery Connect will look at my assessments and let me know if I'm truly testing my students on the standard I have selected. When my students take the assessment they either select answers in the Mastery Connect app on our iPads, or my students will use a bubble sheet. To grade the bubble sheet, I simply have to hold it in front of my computer camera. Instantly, the information is calculated, and I get a color-coded data sheet for my students. I am able to see who mastered the standard, who is close to mastery, and who needs remediation immediately, which means my students get feedback quickly.
I really love this product because I can quickly provide feedback to my students. It has been a great companion in my classroom during out switch to Standards Based Learning. I also enjoy the fact I can search for top rated assessments created by other teachers. This product is limited, since multiple choice assessments are required, and obviously we want our students to work above multiple choice. However it is a fantastic tool for testing the waters to see how well students are understanding concepts.
