How I Use It
Kami is a THE number one tool we use to go paperless in our classroom here in Beaufort County, SC. It allows teachers to push out Word or PDF documents that students can mark up in a variety of different ways. So imagine an activity sheet delivered digitally without having to go to the printer to print it off. Game changer! Now imagine being home sick...you can take that same activity sheet and deliver it digitally but leave a video, voice, or text comment noting what your expectations are. Mind blown! The system allows students to highlight words and get a dictionary definition, they can highlight passages and have it read aloud to them, they can draw, highlight, insert pictures and so much more!!! As a teacher my FAVORITE Kami feature is the ability to cut, reorder, and combine PDF's. This makes manipulating material I purchase off of Teachers Pay Teachers so much easier.
I was part of the district team that evaluated this software and I was so impressed. We are a Google Apps for Education district and it integrates seamlessly with that Learning Management System. I can grade papers using all the Kami tools without having to leave the Google grading window. Students love the ease with which they can manipulate activity sheets or create their own documents without having to deal with paper and pen. Even though younger kids can use this program I would say it is better used with grades 3 and up. I find using it with the tablet easier than an iPad, although it can be used with an iPad. I have used it from digital Sketchnoting to high order read and respond and love it. If you are looking to go paperless this is HANDS DOWN the tool for you. We have also found the support team and the Kami Facebook group great "go to" areas with questions...which I think is super important so four ⭐⭐⭐⭐ for straight up customer service. I think they offer a 30 day free trial, which can be extended if you want to do a pilot program like our district did.
