Two Truths & AI is an interactive digital literacy game for grades K–12 that teaches students to identify AI-generated content and develop critical media literacy skills. Through an engaging, 60-second challenge, students try to distinguish between real and AI-generated movie posters. It's a fun way for students to test their AI detective skills, while also building their critical thinking muscles.
Students learn how to identify AI-generated images and evaluate digital media authenticity amid the ever-growing presence of AI online. Students will:
- Spot AI-generated content by noticing visual clues like text errors, odd details, and using their prior knowledge.
- Think critically about digital images and learn to verify what's authentic vs. altered.
- Explain their reasoning through discussion, practicing both quick decisions and thoughtful analysis.

- Which grades are a good fit for Two Truths & AI?
- Two Truths & AI is designed for grades K–12. We highly recommend that teachers play the game first to judge the appropriateness for their particular classroom. We have two grade bands: grades K–6, which features G and PG movie posters, and grades 7–12, which features G, PG, and PG-13 movie posters. No posters are from movies above PG-13. If teachers would like to review all the movie posters used in the game, they can review and search this list.
- How do I implement Two Truths & AI in my classroom?
- The game is designed with teacher facilitation as the primary recommendation, but the game can be played independently by students. We strongly suggest displaying the game on a shared screen, like a projector or smart board, and asking students to participate collectively. The game can also be played in a 1:1 device classroom, having students complete the game individually. See the Educator Guide for additional implementation suggestions and ideas.
- How is the game played?
- Students will be shown three movie posters—two are real movie posters, but one is generated or altered by generative AI. Students need to spot the "lie." Encourage students to pay attention to details like text changes and object changes, and to use their prior knowledge of movies (if possible). If it gets too tricky, students can use hints that remove one option from the set of three. Students will get three hints for Easy mode, two hints for Medium mode, and only one hint for Hard mode! The game has both a timed version and an untimed version, depending on whether you want to increase the challenge or prioritize discussion.

- Yes! Two Truths & AI can serve as a bellringer or icebreaker activity to introduce the following lessons related to the Information & Media Literacy topic:
- How are the scores calculated?
- Each round consists of 10 sets of movie posters. The score is calculated based on how many out of 10 a student gets correct. The end screen will display the number of questions correctly answered and the accuracy percentage (e.g., a score of 7 out of 10 is 70% accuracy). Depending on their performance, students will see a video celebrating their success and/or tips for the next try.
- Can my students earn a certificate?
- We do not have an official certificate. However, at any time, you can take a screenshot of the end screen with a student's scores and/or use the browser menu to print the final score. You can share these screenshots with teaching partners, administrators, or students' families.
- Can students play Two Truths & AI outside of school?
- Yes! Since it's web-based, students can play with any mobile or internet-connected device. Encouraging students to play at home and share the game with their families is a great way to introduce your community to our Information & Media Literacy topic and the value of critical thinking in the age of AI.
- Is my students' data safe?
- Yes! Two Truths & AI does not collect any personally identifiable information. No login is required. If directed by teachers, users may choose to take a screenshot of their scores. We do not collect such screenshots. This Interactive does not use a tool that lets you choose how a website handles cookies or trackers (called consent-management tools). We collect only a small amount of information needed for the activity to run—such as when a round starts or ends. We do not collect names, answers, or anything that can identify you, and no information is used for ads or tracking across other sites. Any technical details in system logs are shortened or anonymized. For more information, see the Privacy Notice section titled “Why isn’t there a cookie-consent banner on this Interactive?”
