How Can I Teach with This Tool?

Your Plan, Your Planet is an interactive site from Google and the California Academy of Sciences that provides tips for how to positively impact the planet through sustainability. The site aims to show people how to reduce waste and make pledges to take action. Have students step through each of the four sections: Water, Food, Energy, and Stuff. Since students are asked to input information from their own home, it will be best to have them do that research prior to exploring the site. Rather than picking all pledges at the end, students will be more successful if they pick one or two they're interested in. Students can then set up reminders and can check their dashboard weekly or monthly to monitor progress. Teachers can guide students and student clubs to use the information provided to educate and motivate the rest of the school. Your Plan, Your Planet is also a starting point for discussion around climate change. See our Climate Change Resources for Students and Teachers to explore more.
