My Take

As a teaching tool I have a ton of different 'creator' sites linked on my Symbaloo. Now, when a student needs digital ideas I direct them to my shortcut and they can easily choose between creating a poster, movie, recording, etc.

How I Use It

You can use this site in a variety of ways. You can have students with e-mail accounts create a list of all the sites they use, but I prefer to use this as a shortcut to the links that are important to my class. The idea struck me for my first grade classroom where I noticed a classroom teacher making a shortcut for each of the sites she wanted students to go to. You can image what the desktop looked like. Instead, I showed her my sample: http://www.symbaloo.com/shared/AAAAAUgvdx0AA41-4UGqDA== and she understood that she could clear up her desktop with one shortcut that will be saved online should anything happen to the computer. Our students use Blackboard for homework so this can also be linked inside a homework site if you want families to access at home.

All apps on a single page

I think Symbaloo is a beneficial tool for students in younger grades (K-4). Symbaloo can be a gateway into creating favorites. I think as students get older they will learn and understand how to add bookmarks to their search engine and use those more often than a Symbaloo page. Symbaloo is a good foundation to help students learn to navigate between internet sites.

Just a Click Away

It is a great tool to help us gather websites that are appropriate for our students to use. It is free to set up an account so you don't have to worry about paying for it. There is a portion that does cost and you can look into what that has to offer. I have found this tool very beneficial in my teaching. I don't just use it in my teaching, but I have used it in workshops that I have presented at. My favorite part about Symbaloo is how easy it is to use. I don't have to waste time figuring out what to do. I highly recommend looking into the program.
