My Take

I appreciate the flexibility that Padlet offers as a information gathering tool. The "click and type" or "click and link" format of Padlet allows students to become quickly independent on the program, and cuts down on losing the kids from the start. In addition the slimmed down visual format of padlet is a plus; it gives students a limited number of options of backgrounds and layouts which cuts down on start up time. I found that using Padlet on iPad minis allowed my students to have greater control over the photos and videos they included since they could easily pull from the Photos of the mini. It is a great information gathering tool, and would encourage students to write on topics and share information with their peers in a new and novel format.

How I Use It

I have a primary special education classroom of students with Autism, most of whom have other disabilities that impede their rates of learning. We were learning about the people who work within our school community, names of jobs at our school, and what people did in those jobs. I used Padlet to collect information with my students about all of the different job areas at our school and it was amazing! My students took pictures, videos, and I was able to help facilitate group discussions that we recorded onto the padlet under the proper topic. It was a great way to record their information and keep the notes in an organized way. Plus, it was easy to use-just click, type if you want to type or add a piece of media or link to the web. It is very simple to use and flexible enough to be used with students with special needs all the way up to our highest level learners.
