My Take

Try it again in a year or so. I feel that they are working out some kinks right now but it will be a useful program once the company has figured out how to keep it up and running in a reliable fashion. It is not something I plan to continue using remotely because for peace of mind, I would need to have a backup plan in case of an outage, and I do not have these resources on hand while teaching from home. I will try it again when I am back in the classroom where I have other materials to use for lessons in the seemingly likely event that Nearpod crashes.

How I Use It

I used it in a remote environment in order to engage students with the content. The instant feedback was helpful because I could see who understood the content and who did not. Unfortunately, the technology component is not quite up to par. It is quite time-consuming to create lessons, and, while Nearpod has a library with beneficial lessons, they do need to be modified to suit one's specific classroom. I typically put together lessons for my four different classes a week in advance. It has been extremely disappointing to pull up the lesson during class time to find that Nearpod is experiencing an outage or slowdown of some sort. In three weeks, this has happened to me four times. I hope Nearpod improves in this regard because it has a lot of potential and my students did enjoy it on the few occasions that it worked properly.
