My Take

Overall, this is one of my favorite classroom tools for presenting and assessing. Students become active participants in their education while teachers get valuable feedback on student learning. This is certainly a plus. I have found this tool extremely helpful in an one-to-one teaching and learning environment.

How I Use It

Nearpod is a great tool and can be used for interactive presentations and formative assessments. I use Nearpod almost daily in the classroom. Teachers can create their own multimedia presentations or use the pre-made offerings in the library. There are tons of free items as well as items that can be bought. One can upload videos, images, audio clips, and PDF dies. You can also embed multiple-choice questions, slide shows, polls, and draw-it items. You can also include open-ended questions. The teacher can launch the presentation and monitor student progress either from the website or the app. I teach in a one-to-one school and monitor students from my iPad as students complete tasks on their iPads. Students can also complete assignments for homework, if the capability is bought. We use this tool for instruction - learning new material as well as reviewing taught material. I also use this tool for assessing to help guide future instruction. The polls and open-ended questions are also great for in-class discussions and the draw-it tool has been extremely beneficial when teaching math as students can draw and explain math problems. This tool, draw-it, can also be used in other subject areas. This tool is definitely cross-curricular. The pre-made items are also aligned to the common core standards. Lastly, this tool can be use individually, whole-group, small-group, etc. I have not run into any "problems" with this tool and would highly recommend this tool to other teachers.
