My Take

Nearpod is a great tool to add to any educator's toolbox. I like how it can take your current slide decks and import them with ease (so long as the file size meets criteria). I was impressed with how it allows the teacher to control the delivery of content, managing the online learning environment, and is able to allow students to interact at their pace on videos, quizzes, and drawings. Nearpod provides instant feedback allowing teachers to easily check for understanding; to see if there is a need to reteach or if they can continue to move on scaffolding student learning. The one item that can make this difficult is budget, the advance features have a cost. When considering your funding and budget, I would suggest allocating a portion for access to these features. When starting out, don't add too many features. Just as we scaffold learning for students on content, you can also scaffold their comfort level by adding a new advances feature one at a time. Nearpod is a tool all ambitious ed. tech. educators should integrate into their learning environment if they can.

How I Use It

I use Nearpod to drive professional development with teacher "students." Nearpod is a multi-use tool that I use to 1) drive instructional delivery 2) ensure engagement and individual accountability 3) gather quick feedback (formative assessment) on content 4) increase effectiveness of 1:1 or BYOD technology devices 5) to link to extension activities and other learning opportunites (move to blended or flipped environment). The tool is easy for student to access. You have to make sure when using advanced features such as videos, quizzes, external links, or other all links are correct - conduct a trial prior to going live. This can be done with students to orient them on the new tool and great learning opportunity.
