My Take
JASON has some of the best interactive games for deep, enriched learning on the web. They have partnered with BrainPOP to offer some of their games through GAME UP such as Coaster Creator which teaches many scientific and engineering principals in a highly engaging way. Students return to these games on their own. They are motivated to see problems through. The supports that are in place are excellent for all learners and adaptable.
How I Use It
I have used the Games and Digital Labs to further student's understanding of Landforms, city planning, ecology, forces and motion, and weather patterns. All of the labs were successful. They are geared more toward middle and high school levels. Students below fifth grade found some of the material in Land Form Detectives and Energy City to be too rigorous. However, they were motivated enough in the lower grades to work through frustration on Coaster Creator and The Operation: Resilient Planet Game.
We are also contributing to Citizen Science this year by monitoring and collecting water quality and ecological data on the lake that borders our school.
