Community Review for Haiku Deck
My Take
I love this presentation tool. First of all, it is web-based so there are no issues with platform or version. It is easy to learn and use. I was able to figure it out in about an hour and was able to create a presentation on both my computer and my iPad.
There are minimal templates which forces the user to be thoughtful about the text they include. The high res images pulled for you from the creative commons act as metaphors in the presentations which puts the viewers in a position to think about more than just the text.
If you're looking for a new presentation tool for both inside and outside the classroom this is a great one.
How I Use It
Haiku Deck is an easy to use web-based presentation tool that uses high-resolution images and minimal text to engage all learners. In my classroom I have used it for students to create their own individual and/or group presentations. The app takes advantage of high resolution, creative commons images to give the presentations a great look. The templates are few which may seem like a disadvantage but is really a strong point. It forces the students to focus on the content rather than the fanciness of their presentations.
The hardest thing about student presentations is watching them go through and read each power point slide - which inherently have too much text on them anyway. Haiku Deck removes this as an issue. Each template only has room for a small amount of text which forces students to be thoughtful about what they include.
I also use this in almost all of my own presentations outside of the classroom. I like it for the same reasons; the images are metaphors and the text is sparse allowing me to communicate more thoughtfully.
