My Take

I think this is a great teaching tool. We are so reliant on GPS technology now, and have shied away from teaching kids how to read maps. Reading a map is still a really important skill, and this is a really cool app that can help students learn to read maps while keeping them interested.

How I Use It

I teach special education and in my daily living class, I taught the students how to read maps. Part of the assignment was to tell me directions from the school to a place of their choosing (could be the mall, a favorite restaurant, or their homes). The students were allowed to use Google Maps to look up directions if they got stuck. They loved being able to zoom in and see the street view of their favorite places, and really enjoyed learning how to use the app.
