Community Review for GarageBand
My Take
Though it isn't as full-featured as GarageBand for the Mac, GarageBand for iOS just begs your students to create! I find it better for the general music classroom than the desktop version because it is set up to primarily use virtual instruments or live recording, and the built-in loops are secondary. Newer features that allow musicians to jam together are fantastic for improv or iBands. Piano roll editing makes sense to students who don't read music. Kids' songs seem more "real" with easy sharing into iTunes or with email.
How I Use It
I use it for many projects. Younger kids play with the virtual instruments, or I set up a backing track for their improv. Kids learning recorder create an accompaniment for their original recorder song. Middle schoolers get deeper into songwriting/composing. Uses are endless!!
