A useful and productive creative tool, with limits only apparent to professional musicians.

My Take

A truly intuitive app from Apple, GarageBand for the iPad appears to be the leader in tablet-based music production applications at this time. Students with little to no prior knowledge of music production are able to get a song up an running in very little time, and students with a more formal background in music will be able to explore the app with ease. Although limits are obvious to this formerly professional musician (the iPad's built-in microphone is not of the highest quality, and the post-production options leave something to be desired), this app proves to be a reliable and easy-to-use way to show knowledge in a creative, non-traditional way.

How I Use It

The use of this app is only limited by the imagination of the teacher and student. My students use GarageBand to create songs that demonstrate their scientific knowledge, and the results are consistently excellent, pushing them to think about sometimes "boring" subjects in a new and interesting light.
