My Take

I love Flocabulary! I like that my auditory learners now have a tool that they can use to help them learn. I like that it creates a fun atmosphere in my classroom. I also like the fact that they have a fill in the blank component with their lyrics.

How I Use It

I have used Flocabulary in my classroom for several years. They have songs from every content area. The songs are fun, have strong content connections and are a great way to connect content for your auditory learners. Each song has a fill in the blank component which helps reinforce the content the song is teaching. When I introduce a new topic, I like to find a Flocabulary song that goes with it. We listen to the whole song through and then I give them a fill in the blank worksheet. They listen to the song again (once or twice) and fill in the blanks as they go. Then we go over what the words mean. Throughout the rest of the unit, we listen to the song just for fun. Although I am a math teacher, I also like the Week in Rap. They take a weeks worth of news stories and create a rap about them. It's a great way to keep students up to date with what is going on in the world.
