My Take

Flocabulary is perfect for a "hook" or for reviewing skills, like figurative language terms before a test. You could also use Flocabulary for previewing a skill or a current event, or you could assign students to create their own Flocabulary project. High school students enjoy the humor, even if they find it a bit childish.

How I Use It

I teach in an inner-city, urban district. I use Flocabulary when I want a quick and easy approach to previewing or reviewing academic vocabulary. I also use it as a fun way to touch on current events and to monitor what students already know about a current event. Students' verbal and nonverbal reactions show you their interest, prior knowledge and understanding.
