My Take

This is an amazing tool both for instruction and student activity. Only a few buttons and options take away most distractions for kids, icons are universal and large enough for even the youngest of students to understand, and the voice recording feature allows struggling writers to explain their thinking. The only thing that I would change about this app/website is that teachers need to be able to set up classes and have access to their students' work without signing in to their accounts, or without having to set up generic accounts that all students use.

How I Use It

I have seen this app used in a variety of ways. The two most productive ways were to have students create tutorial videos after learning a concept that the teacher posted to the classroom website. All students then had these videos as resources when they needed them. A fourth grade teacher displayed unit vocabulary on the board in the morning for a new social studies topic. She had her students use Educreations to find pictures of the vocabulary words and then record themselves justifying how the pictures they picked fit with the vocabulary word. That afternoon when it was time to teach social studies, the students already had some background knowledge from the morning activity.
