My Take

Educreations is a free app for iPads that allows people to create screencasts. The screencasts can include images, written text or diagrams, with audio to explain each part. A great feature is being able to have multiple pages, so you can set up multiple pages ahead of recording. A disadvantage is not being able to re-record without losing the image and diagrams.
Teachers can set up classes. You can set screencasts for specific classes. There is also a class code that can be given to students that allows them to create a student account without needing an email address.

How I Use It

I use Educreations to create flipped lessons for my students. The finished videos are easily embedded in our course management system. The students can watch and re-watch the lessons until they understand the concept.

In class, the students use Educreations as traditional whiteboard markers. They write their answers on the screen and hold it up. They love the simplicity of the activity. There are also times when I have the students create their own version of the flipped lessons. They work in small groups to record their own video with an explanation of our current topic.
