My overall opinion about the product as a teaching tool is that it is an excellent way for teachers to remember to reward students for positive behaviors. My experiences over the years have been that students learn best from positive reinforcement and Class Dojo is an excellent way to use positive reinforcement!
How I Use It
My students love Class Dojo – there are multiple uses for Class Dojo, but I will only discuss a couple of them. I use it to motivate students and track data (behaviors), and students especially like that they have the ability to select their own avatar. I project Class Dojo in the front of the room for students easily see when students are working in collaborative groups. Class Dojo allows me to give instant feedback to my students as I am able to walk around the class and “collect data/grade” students while they are in groups or individually within a group. Once the group returns to their seats, I always have students grade “the group” and complete a personal reflective piece on individual participation/work. Once students complete both components, I ask them to review both group and individual tallies they made and compare their responses with my observations in Class Dojo. It is highly engaging cloudware and especially nice that it is personalized for each student. In addition, as an education specialist, I track data. Class Dojo allows me to track the data, and an even better aspect of Class Dojo is parents have the ability to see the data daily!
