Excellent tool for promoting creativity
Community Review for Canva for Education
My Take
Beside the ipad version of Canva's templates (free or paid) issue, Canva is a must for all educators who are given their first steps into edtech. It's a great tool for introducing design and creativity projects for teachers and students.
How I Use It
As part of making our "Secret ID" for signing in to our Code.org class for coding, I asked to each student to design their ID using Canva Business cards templates. They were required to add their names, class name, a funny sentence in their ID card - I am the best- and their characters password.
Most of the students loved it! The user-friendly functions of Canva and the quality design of the templates encouraged the students to get into the activity. It took us 2 classes to have all the students (18) to complete this assignment. We used 2 ipads so it took much longer that expected to have all the students with their IDs.
Using Canva on Ipad has a major problem: it doesn't say what templates are free, so I had some students choosing paid business card templates and at the end of the class, they found out that they had to choose free templates. On the laptop version it is easy to know what are the paid and free templates.
