BrainPop is awesome and kids love it! Wish all movies were free.
Community Review for BrainPOP Featured Movie
My Take
The kids absolutely love the BrainPop free app. However, if you are used to the full paid webiste, you might find this somewhat limited. The free movie is BrainPop's choice, so it is difficult to use as a curriculum support. There are some free movies (three for each subject area) you can count on, so use them where they align to your units of study. The quizzes are good, you can have students take a screenshot of their scores when they complete the quiz. I wish there was a better reporting system for the quizzes so that students responses were recorded.
How I Use It
We love Brainpop! We have used the free videos as a whole class lesson (like digital etiquette), and then had students answer the quiz questions individually. Brainpop also makes a great center for independent viewing and answering questions. I would definitely recommend it as a comprehension tool, and students do really enjoy the videos. Teachers should preview the video each week before sending the students to a center with, as the difficulty levels do seem to vary. I don't like having students work on centers without having to be responsible for what they do, so I have also made a google form for students to fill out as they take each quiz. This way I have a record of their performance.
