Community Review for BrainPOP Featured Movie
My Take
The free featured video can be used as a comprehension tool within a reading classroom as well as a way to reinforce concepts learned within the framework of content area curriculum. The subscription is well worth the price paid per school/district, as the multitude of varied interest videos and corresponding activities helps to reinforce curriculum concepts.
How I Use It
I use this program with my students who have deficits in reading/writing skills and/or processing delays. I choose to show the subtitle/closed captioning to help enforce reading in other interest areas (such as social studies or science). We typically watch the video together as a class, students complete the quiz afterwards on their own (with the option to review) and then they guide themselves through the short activities that are at the end of the video. My students need repetition to balance their processing delays and BrainPop provides ready made high-interest videos that work very well and are easy to use/navigate.
