My Take

I like that students were able to practice their social networking skills in a safe environment. Not all of our students are readers or typists and these skills are important as they get older. However, unless I had the incentive of the book raffle, I'm afraid not all students would be engaged.

How I Use It

Students at first really enjoyed writing book reviews. They had the incentive of earning free books to keep. We practiced our persuasive writing skills and then I allowed students to send their reviews and suggestions to other students in the class. Students were most engaged by the ability to change their avatar (which turned into a time-suck) and ability to send recommendations.

Great and cute reading log!

This is a great website and has really fun backgrounds and colors to attract students to use it more often. Also, it is such a good idea for an online log reader.

Discover endless books!

Bookopolis is a great site for students to discover new books. The 'Book Ideas' section is really useful because they will find suggested books that are award winners, newly released, and liked by other readers. Reviews by other readers is a great feature to read their feedback on why they enjoyed or did not enjoy the novel. Leaving their own reviews encourages students to express their own opinions and use their writing skills. They can also practice digital citizenship as they write reviews.

Bookopolis Review 2021

I don't think this website can be used as a teaching tool. Instead it could be used to help students develop interest in reading, find grade level appropriate books and engage with an online reading community just for young students.
