My Take

Blogger has many applications in class. I like it because it is easy to use and works well for anyone who has a gmail account (basically all my students at this point). It also syncs with Google drive documents, Google calendar, and generally allows for smooth compatibility between different Google services.

Admittedly, there are plenty of other blog options that look way slicker and may be easier to use. But, I'm limited to reviewing what I know...

How I Use It

I use blogger for two main purposes:
I run my class blog off of this platform. It works very well for this purpose although, admittedly, the layout is dated and some features are limited. In my experience (I've heard there are ways around this), you need to share documents that have been uploaded into Google Drive. As a result, the formatting can get wonky.
That said, I use my class blog to have daily agendas, electronic copies of assignments, reminders, a class calendar, links to online resources, surveys, and anything else students need.

I've also had students create their own blogs to share work they did on a lab. It was fun, creative, and public. They did great work and gained a good boost of energy and excitement at the end of the year. I shared links to each other's blogs and they had a great time learning about other team's research projects.
