Wonderful Free Resource for all Reading Comprehension Needs!
I love that this is a free resource that is utilizing trade books already available in my school library. It is easy to use and has all the necessary connections to curriculum. It gives me ideas to enhance my reading strategy instruction for both whole class and small group. The website says that they are continuing to grow their library of ideas and I can't wait to see how this resource develops. Currently the titles can get me started in my literacy program so more titles / lessons would be very welcome!

ReadWords is an essential tool for language arts teachers to use to teach reading comprehension, skills, and strategies!
ReadWorks is an essential tool for language arts teachers. It is built on research and proven methods to make all readers excel in reading. I especially liked the capability to search by skill or strategy and by grade, or reading level. I also relied heavily on the ability to search reading passages by fiction or nonfiction genre. ReadWorks helped my students focus on answering text dependent questions. It was easy to find quality material to assess making inferences and main idea, which can be difficult to teach as well as assess. I would love to see the novel units be extended down to third grade in the future. I also have noticed throughout the year that additional quality material is constantly being added.

Great skeleton lesson plan materials, just make sure you add the muscle.
Overall Readworks is a great resource, I love that it has a framework all set up for me for each lesson. That being said the teacher facing lesson plan is not super in depth and could provide more specific book pages to stop on and more higher level questioning ideas. Also I would love to see some deeper vocabulary practices like gross-motor interaction and vocab visualizations/charts being added to their lessons to help ELL/Low Literacy students even more. I did like using it as a spring board to creating my own lessons and as a benchmark for where my instruction is. Readworks is a great resource that I hope continues to grow into having more specific teaching points and more comprehensive teaching techniques and activities.

Treasure trove of reading comprehension resources and lessons for K-8, aligned to Common Core Standards
Organized into skill/strategy units K-6); comprehension units (K-5); novel study units (5-6); and reading passages (K-8), this serves as a fantastic collection of resources for teaching literacy. And they are free! I like how it is organized. If I need a particular skill, such as cause and effect or sequence, I can easily find resources and lessons within the grade level or reading level that I need. The lessons use real literature to teach the skills such as The Wizard of Oz, The Snowy Day, and The Westing Game. The Reading Passages section is organized almost like a search engine. You can type in a keyword, a grade, a lexile level, a domain (life science, technology, geography, engineering), even a text type, and it gives you choices to use. Reading passages are uploaded as pdfs, so it is easy to download and print, or even save and upload to use online. I highly recommend this as a collective library of resources!
