Pros: The lightsail app was rolled out in my classroom starting this past fall. I can't praise this app enough! The information on the heat map allows me to see how my students are doing, and therefore enables me as the instructor to intervene immediately if one of my scholars is falling behind. As a teacher, knowing that I am able to immediately see if a student needs specialized attention is priceless! I find that my students are enthusiastic about the titles that they can choose from on the LightSail app, therefore leading to excited readers. They especially like that there are a lot of titles that were recently made into movies, like The Book Thief and Divergent! What teacher doesn't want to see their students falling in love with reading and excited about earning badges to move forward in their literacy?! The ability to watch students thrive as they read, and the ability to have real-time feedback about how my students are doing is what makes this app a must have for me in the classroom. Cons: Having to learn anything new always takes some time. I found the support team very key in this aspect, and found that I learned how to use it faster than I expected.

This is an incredible teaching tool that I think has purpose in every classroom setting. I love how easy the technology is to use and how it constantly updates and analyzes information. There is a sense of transparency when I send my students off to read independently that I never thought could exist. I have such a clear picture of each student's learning breakdown. I cant wait for it to be available on all tablets, not just iPads, so the students can access this product at home!

I think that this could be a useful and powerful tool for the entire school. It is important that teachers are trained well and understand the application and all of its unique features and ways to communicate with students.

Not only does it keep scholars engaged, but it helps simplify the conferring process, by having all student data directly sent to teacher ipads.

Overall, this technology helped me be a much more precise instructor around literacy development. The technology provided me with a constant stream of digestible data, both quantitative and qualitative, which allowed me to support my students in ways that were more intentional and data-driven. The technology makes reading instruction more transparent and tangible for both the teacher and the students.
