My Take
Overall, this technology helped me be a much more precise instructor around literacy development. The technology provided me with a constant stream of digestible data, both quantitative and qualitative, which allowed me to support my students in ways that were more intentional and data-driven. The technology makes reading instruction more transparent and tangible for both the teacher and the students.
How I Use It
I used LightSail's literacy technology for both independent reading and whole-class instruction around a single text. LightSail was tremendously helpful in encouraging students to be active annotators of the texts they are reading. Also, the technology promotes metacognition by asking students to link their thoughts to the appropriate Common Core Standard. Students were able to transfer the reading skills they developed on LightSail to a wide variety of readings.
