Students learn critical thinking, math skills and perseverance with this app.
This app does a good job of embedding academic vocabulary and math skills into a fun and creative experience. Learning to code is engaging and empowering for students. A new feature allows students to upload or download projects. This is great in that students can share their work or see what others have created. However, it makes it hard to determine if a student created a project or simply downloaded it and put their name on it. The app appeals to all skill levels, I have seen all kids be successful using on this app. From SPED students to Gifted and Talented (GATE) students, they all get hooked and can create wonderful projects.

Great beginning programming app with high functionality
This is a quality app that is providing good updates; the company also responds to tech support questions. In my opinion, all students need to learn the type of thinking that programming develops, and this app worked great for my students in grades 3-5. It was also very successful with my special needs students (ELL and special ed) since the reading requirement was minimal and equally successful with my gifted students. I would like to see more support from the app developers on how to use this tool beyond drawing with it like an Etch-a-Sketch. I have programming background, but without this, I'm not sure how teachers will see how to use this as the great tool it is. Definitely kids will figure it out on their own, but teachers will want to design lessons to understand and develop the strong thinking skills students can get from this experience.

Problem Solving App Makes Coding Easy as 123!
I think coding is the foreign language of the future and our kids are not too young to start learning. Hopscotch is visual-based so kids don't have to spell or worry about missing punctuation elements. I wish it had more FAQ/Help info (it may but I have yet to locate), however, that is kind of part of the challenge. You try something and see what happens. Requires an iPad (not sure about other platforms)
