My Take

I think coding is the foreign language of the future and our kids are not too young to start learning. Hopscotch is visual-based so kids don't have to spell or worry about missing punctuation elements. I wish it had more FAQ/Help info (it may but I have yet to locate), however, that is kind of part of the challenge. You try something and see what happens. Requires an iPad (not sure about other platforms)

How I Use It

I have used this coding app with my 8 and 5 year olds. They can quickly begin coding using easy drag-and-drop visual coding elements to make creatures or words move around the page based on set actions such as "tap iPad" "tap Play" or "turn screen." I have begun challenging my 8 year old with specific tasks such as make the gorilla hop three times or spell a word by leaving a trail. Since my 5 year old is still learning to read, he is in a more discovery mode. He tries bits of code and is then surprised by what he has made happen. He can see how his changes affect the outcome.
