Students learn critical thinking, math skills and perseverance with this app.
This app does a good job of embedding academic vocabulary and math skills into a fun and creative experience. Learning to code is engaging and empowering for students. A new feature allows students to upload or download projects. This is great in that students can share their work or see what others have created. However, it makes it hard to determine if a student created a project or simply downloaded it and put their name on it. The app appeals to all skill levels, I have seen all kids be successful using on this app. From SPED students to Gifted and Talented (GATE) students, they all get hooked and can create wonderful projects.
How I Use It
I have used it with 5th graders for two years now. We have them do the Hour of Code Hopscotch tutorial first and then they can be up and running with the app in no time. We let students create games and encourage them to consider educational games she possible. There have been some amazing math games created by students that really blew my mind.
