This is a great tool to spark original thought and conversation.
TED Ed is an invaluable asset to both teachers and students. Many of the speakers are young people who have literally changed the world somehow, and students need to see and hear that that is possible. When you couple this with the fact that the videos have lesson ideas corresponding with the content of the talk, the value of the site only goes up.

Great for what's happening in the real world
I find that my honors class students are more receptive to TED talks. They maintain focus on the speakers and reflect on the videos at a deeper level than the regular classes. I feel the talks are not applicable to lower level students and would be lost on them without a lot of teacher explanation.

Top quality video clips and thoughtful discussion starters
I like that the videos are short and relevant, and the lessons are customizable. These are very helpful for homebound students. The videos can be stopped and restarted as needed.

Ted Ed brings written articles to life!
I love using Ted Talks in the classroom. The only problem that I found with the Ted Talks was that they weren't always on the level that I needed for my students. Ted Ed is a great way around that! It can be a great hook for a lesson or a wrap up summary. The fact that it comes with questions at the end is even better to make sure the students stay on task! Many of my students do not have the background knowledge before we read articles in class. This allows them to make connections to the material before we even get started with it! It makes them feel more empowered and aware of the outside world.

Fantastic way to deliver content in a meaningful way.
The best thing about Ted Ed is the exposure students get to real scientists. It is a quick way to access scientists, great thinkers, and great ideas. The talks are short and fit easily into a regular class period. They are very engaging, lead to excellent discussions, and higher order thought processes. There are also lessons associated with many of the videos. It is very easy to create a lesson around these videos.

Interactive Supplemental Source in Traditional or Flipped Classrooms
When I started teaching, TED Talks (the digital video series) was just beginning to be a resource and has since become not only culturally popular but an education source as well. TED Ed, in my experience, is nearing the cusp of that development as well. As a teacher, this is a great source for introducing, expanding, or transitioning topics in the classroom. Students, as I rated above, have responded well to the short, thoughtful videos. As I've used TED Ed, I've found it an excellent supplement for lessons, but not necessarily a substitute. On the other hand, I would recommend for flipped classrooms. Students would have the ability to follow up with discussion questions and further recommended sources listed next to the video.
The website is organized well, my suggestion would be that the categories under "Lessons", like Literature and Language, need more options and perhaps better labeling. It can be tricky to find exactly what is needed, and the "Series" collection can have confusing labels like "Click Your Fortune." Also, I can imagine it could be easy for students to get distracted or off their topic when browsing the site. That being said, with more videos and better labeling, TED Ed is poised to be an engaging source for students.

Great source of high quality content you could use to flip your classroom.
TEDed is a great resource for finding engaging videos on a variety of topics. As an 8th grade American history teacher I have used several clips this year to help introduce a topic in my class. I also admit to sometimes just looking through the different videos and watching something that looks interesting in other subject areas.
